A breathtaking view deck perfect destination for meditation and prayers captured my attention when I was in New Corella. It was called “Balaang Bukid“(Holy Mountain) where a Holy Cross was built symbolizing the strong faith of people on this locale. It is located at Magsaysay, Brgy. Patrocenio, New Corella, Davao del Norte, PHilippines.
From Tagum City, it will take half an hour to reach the said municipality. Then from its local terminal to the panoramic site you will ride a single motorcycle as a means of transportation in the area.
It was built last March 31, 2015 in cooperation with the LGU officials of New Corella, Holy Infant Community, and San Isidro Labrador Parish priests. The cross was made of bamboo and the community of Patrocenio makes a new one every year. They have plans of installing a gigantic cross visible in remote parts of New Corella however they cannot afford to build one and government funds are not allowed in financing religious symbols and edifice. As of last year, they conducted a Run for the Cross in order to maintain and replace the said symbolic cross.
There was a design proposed by a UP Mindanao Architect Professor Ryan, a made of steel and stands 80 feet. Once erected, this will become a very important landmark in Mindanao, a symbol of Christian faith.
As of now, the Balaang Bukid is use as a pilgrimage and meditation areas for reflections. Many of the tourists and devotees from the different places visited the site as they experienced peace and tranquility embracing the sound of nature.
